Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha Hi-Lo begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complicated initially, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting range of wagering options and because you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, along with several shooting for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
