Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
