Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
