Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he liked participating in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games while playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus more on the game.

The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently wager against each other. He had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. He used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit hold’em.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to head out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker world has ever seen. He headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
