Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
